Posted by jhailey@hotmail.com Latcho Drom (ROM for "safe travel") describes the trip, singing and dancing groups of Roma from Rajasthan (India), Egypt, Turkey, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, France and Spain. Some scenes are taken, but there is no dialogue or commentary - only a partial translation of some songs. The film shows the diversity of conditions under which the Romenomads land in hot deserts of Asia, blacksmiths and iron poor people poor tree frozen plains of Eastern Europe and the artisans and traders in the hills and beaches of North Africa and Western Europe - live. It also shows the similarity in travel patterns, sounds (spoon, open drums, rhythms and string-based) and the song topics (Feast of the journey and the refusal by the perceived lack of local year).
